Christmas
Sensory-Friendly and Relaxed Christmas Events in Cheshire
Christmas is for everyone. For lots of families, though, the crowds, bright lights and noise that come with the season can make it feel overwhelming rather than exciting.
That’s why we’ve brought together sensory-friendly and relaxed Christmas events from across Cheshire and Warrington in one place. Depending on the event, that might mean quieter sessions, softer lighting and sound, smaller numbers, or simply a more understanding atmosphere, where nobody minds if you need to take a break, move around or make a bit of noise.
You might be after a calmer visit to see Santa, a relaxed festive performance or a gentler way to soak up the season. These events are designed with children and adults with SEN, autism, ADHD, dementia or sensory processing needs in mind, and they’re just as good for anyone who prefers a slower pace.
Every event is a little different, so it’s worth checking with the venue before you go to find out what adjustments are in place and whether you need to book.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a sensory-friendly or relaxed event?
It’s an event that’s been adapted to feel calmer and more comfortable. Depending on the venue, that might mean lower music, softer lighting, fewer people, no sudden loud noises or a quiet space to take a break. There’s also a relaxed attitude to movement and noise, so nobody needs to worry about sitting still or staying quiet.
- Who are these events for?
Anyone who would enjoy a calmer experience. They’re designed with children and adults with SEN, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, dementia or sensory processing needs in mind, and families, friends and carers are welcome too. You don’t need a diagnosis to attend.
- Is a relaxed performance different from a normal one?
The show itself is usually the same, but the environment is adapted. House lights are often left partly on, loud sound effects may be softened, and you’re free to come and go during the performance. Some venues share a visual story or guide beforehand so you know what to expect. Please check details and adaptations with the venue/organisers before you visit/book.
- Do I need to book?
Many sensory-friendly sessions have limited spaces to keep numbers low, so booking ahead is usually a good idea. Check each event listing or contact the venue directly for details.
- Can carers get a free or discounted ticket?
Some venues offer free or discounted tickets for carers, and some accept schemes such as the CEA Card or Nimbus Access Card. Policies vary, so it’s best to check with the venue before you book.
- How do I know what the event will be like before I go?
Some venues produce visual stories, photos or videos showing the space, the staff and what will happen on the day. These can be really helpful for preparing, so ask the venue if one is available before you book/visit.
- My event isn’t listed. How can I add it?
If you’re running a sensory-friendly or relaxed Christmas event in Cheshire you can submit it through our events submission form and we’ll consider it for this page.
