Discover Cheshire's Peak District

Where to begin? Over to the east, Cheshire rises to the Peak District, England's first National Park, creating Cheshire's Peak District, an area brimming with breath-taking scenery, dramatic landscapes and world-class events.  From Lyme and the hills above Buxton to Biddulph's moorlands in the South, Cheshire's Peak District is an area of truly outstanding beauty.

At the dramatic rocky outcrop of Alderley Edge, there are mysteries and myths bound up with Merlin. Almost as weird and wonderful are the bridges and locks on the Macclesfield Canal which takes you by hired boat or towpath serenely to the Silk Museum, the eccentricities of the Anson Engine Museum and the Georgian architectural grace of Lyme - National Trust. Stride out along the Gritstone Trail, a 35 mile trail with stunning views in all directions across Cheshire's peaks and plains.

There are many unique market towns situated within Cheshire's Peak District, such as stone built Bollington where you can climb Kerridge Hill to see the famous White Nancy landmark, believed to commermorate the victory at Waterloo; Knutsford, the inspiration for Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford and Prestbury, a pretty village sitting in sight of the Pennine foothills astride the River Bollin to name a few.

Cheshire's Peak District is also home to no less than 7 National Trust properties not to mention many other fantastic attractions. Start by exploring stately homes Tatton Park and Arley Hall with their magnificent mansions and award winning gardens. Speaking of Gardens, garden lovers will be thrilled with the many stunning gardens on view in this area including Gawsworth Hall, Capesthorne Hall, Quarry Bank and Rode Hall & Gardens.

The Cheshire Peak District area offers a myriad of unusual delights. Come face to face with cutting edge science at Jodrell Bank and marvel at the giant Lovell Telescope, or discover some of the world's rarest mechanical engines at Anson Engine Museum.

And for a burst of fresh air and quality family time make sure you visit the many country parks and nature reserves in the area including Tegg's Nose Country Park which offers exhilarating views over Macclesfield Forest and is part of the famous Gritstone Trail.
