1. Tales from Acorn Wood at Storyhouse, Chester

Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's beloved Tales from Acorn Wood comes to life on stage at Storyhouse Chester on Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th August. Fox has lost his socks, Rabbit can't sleep, and Postman Bear has a very special surprise in store, all brought to life with puppetry, toe-tapping songs and the much-loved characters from Acorn Wood. 2. Old Hall Open Days at Tatton Park

Tucked away within Tatton Park's expansive grounds, the Old Hall is one of Cheshire's best kept secrets, and this Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th August it opens its doors to visitors. Originally built by the powerful Stanley family, this Tudor building predates the famous mansion by centuries and has a quiet, atmospheric charm all of its own. Pick up a family activity pack from reception, explore the rooms and the surrounding grounds, and let the children run free in one of the most beautiful corners of the estate. 3. Deva Fest at Cholmondeley Castle Gardens

One of Cheshire's most beloved festivals returns to the spectacular grounds of Cholmondeley Castle from Thursday 6th to Sunday 9th August. Award-winning and proudly family-friendly, Deva Fest brings four days of music, comedy, camping, a free-to-ride fairground and handpicked food and drink from local suppliers. Headline performances come from Jessie J, Ronan Keating and James Morrison among others. 4. The Pirates of Penzance at Norton Priory, Runcorn

Gilbert and Sullivan's comic masterpiece sets sail in the woodland theatre at Norton Priory on Thursday 6th August at 7:30pm. A six-strong cast of actor-singers with full orchestral accompaniment bring Frederick, the Pirate King, the hapless constabulary and the unforgettable Major General to life in one of opera's most gloriously witty and tuneful evenings. 5. Adult Night at Hole in Wand, Chester

Mini golf after dark returns to Hole in Wand on Chester's Eastgate Street on Friday 7th August from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, exclusively for wizards aged 18 and over.
