A spectacular immersive experience narrated by Sir David Attenborough has opened at Chester Zoo, with new images revealing how the production is bringing the story of our planet to life in the North West for the first time.

Our Story with David Attenborough opens to the public today (Saturday 17 October), following a hugely successful run at London’s Natural History Museum, where more than 245,000 people have experienced it.

The 50-minute production surrounds audiences with extraordinary natural history footage, scientifically accurate animation and 360-degree projections across walls and floors, taking visitors on a journey through the four-billion-year history of Earth.

Newly released images and video offer a first look inside the experience at Chester Zoo, where a former Ape House has been transformed into an immersive space in which the story unfolds all around the audience.

Created in collaboration with Sir David Attenborough and award-winning Open Planet Studios, Our Story explores the impact humans have had on the planet, while looking at how people can live with nature to create a better future.

Chester Zoo is the first venue outside London to host the full original experience, bringing the production to audiences across the North without the need to travel to the capital.

Dom Strange, Chief Operating Officer at Chester Zoo, said:

“We’re incredibly proud to have brought Our Story to Chester. It’s a remarkable experience, and being the first venue outside London to host the full production makes this a really special moment for us.

“Sir David Attenborough has inspired generations of people to care about the natural world. This experience gives people the chance to immerse themselves in the story of our planet in a completely different way – and we hope they leave with a renewed sense of wonder about the world around them, and what we can do to protect it.”

The production combines real-world cinematography, animation, storytelling and an original score by Tony Award- and Olivier Award-nominated composer Nick Powell.

Its message is ultimately one of hope, encouraging audiences to reflect on the relationship between people and the natural world, and the choices that will shape the planet’s future.

Our Story with David Attenborough is now open at Chester Zoo. Tickets start at £15.
