5 Things to do this Week - 23rd - 30th March
Spring has arrived, the days are stretching out, and Cheshire has plenty to offer this week. From candlelit music in a cathedral to cherry blossom at a castle, here are five things worth making plans for right now.
1. Celebrate Cheshire Day
Cheshire Day falls on Sunday, 30th March, and plenty is happening across the county this week to mark the occasion. The date marks the charter of liberties granted to Cheshire by King Edward I in 1300, a moment that functioned as something of a local Magna Carta, and it has grown into an annual county-wide celebration of everything that makes Cheshire great.
From its culinary heritage, home to the nation's first named cheese, farm-to-fork food producers and forest-foraged gins, to its rich history, its myths and its market towns, Cheshire Day is an opportunity to appreciate and explore the county with a little extra sense of occasion.
This year, there is a special one-off walking food tour in Chester city centre on 30th March, a cheese and drinks tasting evening at Combermere Abbey, a Cheshire Day set menu at The Pheasant Inn showcasing local and seasonal produce, and 20% off at The Ice Cream Drive In. There is also a competition running for the chance to win a family break in Chester.

2. Cherry Blossom at Cholmondeley Castle Gardens
Don't miss the Cherry Blossom at Cholmondeley Castle this Sunday, before the petals start to fall. For a few fleeting weeks each spring, Cholmondeley Castle Gardens is transformed into one of the most breathtaking seasonal spectacles in Cheshire. Over 70 ornamental cherry trees burst into bloom across the gardens' specialist collections, ranging from soft blush pinks and deep rose tones to elegant upright forms and cascading weeping varieties, each with its own character, scent and beauty.
On arrival, visitors receive a specially designed Cherry Blossom Trail map guiding them on a self-led wander through the most photogenic and whimsical corners of the gardens. It is one of those experiences that feels genuinely fleeting, so if spring blossoms are your thing, do not wait too long to book.
3. The Music of Ed Sheeran by Candlelight at Chester Cathedral
Chester Cathedral has a long history of hosting remarkable evenings, and this week it plays host to a candlelit celebration of one of Britain's most beloved songwriters. A world-class cast of vocalists and a live band take the stage to perform Ed Sheeran's most iconic songs, from Shape of You and Thinking Out Loud to Galway Girl and Happier, all by candlelight in one of the most spectacular settings in the North West. There are few better ways to spend a Thursday evening in March.

4. Ladies Evening: Style Edit at Bents Garden and Home
If a stylish midweek evening out is more your thing, Bents Garden and Home is hosting a beautifully curated Spring Ladies' Evening this Wednesday. Led by colour and textiles specialist Sarah Pardoe, the evening offers a thoughtful perspective on how colour and styling shape mood, confidence and the way we feel in what we wear. It is less a lesson in how to dress, and more an invitation to see clothing differently.
Professional models showcase the latest spring and summer collections throughout the evening, with an exclusive 20% off all fashion on the night. Alongside the expert talk and live Q&A, a selection of homemade canapés are served, including smoked salmon crostini, tempura king prawns, teriyaki chicken skewers and chocolate-dipped strawberries. Tickets are £35 per person and it takes place in the Fresh Approach Restaurant at Bents.
5. Canaletto Reconstructed: A Mixed Media Collage Workshop at Tatton Park
For something a little more hands-on this weekend, Floating Art is bringing a creative mixed media workshop to Tatton Park, led by local artist Ula Fung. Drawing inspiration from Canaletto's compositions, participants will create their own contemporary collages using acrylic paint, printing ink, monoprinting techniques and photographic elements. The session begins with a short talk and demonstration exploring Canaletto's artistic approach before moving into plenty of hands-on making time. At two and a half hours, it is beginner-friendly, all materials are provided, and all abilities are welcome. A genuinely lovely way to spend a Saturday morning, and a fitting complement to the broader Canaletto exhibition running at Tatton Park throughout 2026.
