Crewe BID brings seaside scavenger hunt to town this Bank Holiday

Families are being challenged to hunt down hidden seaside surprises across Crewe this August Bank Holiday, as Crewe Business Improvement District (BID) brings back its seaside-themed bucket trail for Discover Crewe-on-Sea.

The trail forms part of the three-day sea event, delivered by Crewe Town Council in partnership with Crewe BID and supported by Mornflake, which will bring a pop-up beach and free family entertainment to Lyceum Square from Saturday, August 29th until Monday, August 31st.

Crewe BID’s trail will take families beyond Lyceum Square and on a journey through Crewe town centre and Grand Junction Retail Park, searching for hidden seaside objects at participating businesses along the way.

From life rings and ice creams to sailboats, starfish and sunglasses, a different seaside-themed object will be waiting to be discovered at each stop. Families can follow the Discover Crewe-on-Sea map, tick off their finds and enjoy additional activities along the route.

Businesses getting involved include Hong’s Noodle & Dumpling Bar, Pound Bakery, ODEON, Rhode Island Coffee, Hays Travel, Specsavers, British Heart Foundation, TK Maxx and Currys.

Rose Horner, Crewe BID Manager, said: “We want families to have fun exploring Crewe and the bucket trail gives them a reason to venture beyond the main event and discover different parts of the town along the way.

“There are some fantastic businesses taking part, from places to eat and drink to shops and leisure venues, and hopefully people will find somewhere they haven’t visited before while they’re completing the trail. It adds another bit of seaside fun to the weekend while also encouraging people to explore, spend time in Crewe and support the businesses here.”

At the heart of Discover Crewe-on-Sea will be the return of the pop-up beach to Lyceum Square, with real sand and beach props alongside a packed programme of free entertainment across the three days.

Activities will include face painting from Pixie Jen, children’s craft activities with Creative Crewe on Saturday from 11am to 3pm, live music from local DJ Catch92 and a bubble show from Cosmic Faerie on Bank Holiday Monday.

Giant Seagulls, The Lifesaver, The Van Dunk Brothers and All Hands on Deck will also be appearing throughout the weekend, bringing walkabout performances and more seaside fun to Lyceum Square.

Stuart Manifold, Chief Operating Officer at Crewe Youth Zone and Crewe BID Board Member, said: “Events like this give families something completely different to do in Crewe during the school holidays, without having to spend a lot of money.

“The bucket trail adds another element to the weekend because it encourages families to get out and explore more of Crewe while they are here and hopefully discover some new favourite places along the way.”

Discover Crewe-on-Sea is delivered by Crewe Town Council in partnership with Crewe BID and supported by Mornflake. The free, drop-in event forms part of Crewe Town Council’s Summer Festival of Fun.
