Tempranillo returns to Macclesfield as Tempranillo Nómada at RedWillow Macclesfield
Tempranillo, the much-loved Madrid-inspired tapas restaurant formerly of Back Wallgate, is returning to Macclesfield under a new name. The team will take up residence in the kitchen at RedWillow Macclesfield as Tempranillo Nómada, bringing their small plates back to the town alongside RedWillow’s own beers.
Nómada is Spanish for nomad, a fitting name for a restaurant that has packed up its pans and found somewhere new to cook. Tempranillo built a loyal following for its tapas inspired by the bars of Madrid, with small plates made for sharing and cooked by a team with real expertise in Spanish food. Since closing its doors earlier this year, the restaurant has received a flood of messages and stories from customers about what it meant to them.
Ben Dean of Tempranillo Nómada said: “I have known Toby, Caroline and RedWillow for over 15 years, and we have worked together on numerous occasions to great effect in that time. When I had the idea of a new direction for Tempranillo, I knew they were the perfect people to approach. We share a passion for hospitality in Macclesfield and a love of quality food, wine and beer. We also share many customers, so hopefully they will be as excited as we are to have two of their favourites under one roof.”
Caroline McKenzie, Co-Founder of RedWillow Brewery, said: “Tempranillo and RedWillow have both spent the last 13 years helping to bring some of the finer things in life to the hospitality scene in Macclesfield, so when Ben reached out, it immediately felt like a good fit.”
The opening menu is built around classic tapas made for sharing. Croquetas come in Iberico ham, goat’s cheese and txangurro crab, while meat dishes include albondigas in Rioja tomato sauce and hot León chorizo cooked in Spanish cider. From the sea there are boquerones and king prawns in butter, chilli and garlic, and the vegetable dishes range from pimientos de padrón and patatas bravas to Tempranillo’s famous Spanish tortilla and a pumpkin, aubergine and pepper stew. A charcuteria board and Manchego with quince jelly complete the savoury side, with churros and hot chocolate sauce to finish.
Plates start from £4.50, and vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes are clearly marked throughout. From Thursday 5th November, Nómada will be cooking four days a week: Thursday and Friday from 5pm to 9:30pm, Saturday from 12pm to 9:30pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 6:30pm. Walk-ins are welcome, and groups of six or more are asked to book a table by sending a direct message to RedWillow on Instagram.
