A Style-Seeker's Weekend in Chester
Find your Style
Chester has always known how to do things beautifully. A city where Roman history and medieval architecture share the streets with designer boutiques, celebrated restaurants, and some seriously exciting new arrivals, it's a destination that rewards those with an eye for the finer things. Hop on a Transport for Wales train and arrive in style: the adventure begins the moment you step off.
Day 1: Designer Finds and Dinner Done Well
Morning and Afternoon: Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet
There's only one place to start. Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet is the UK's largest designer outlet, home to over 140 stores offering up to 60% off names including Mulberry, Calvin Klein, Coach, and Kate Spade. Whether you're hunting for a specific piece or simply seeing what the day brings, it's a genuinely brilliant way to spend a morning and afternoon. Between shops, take your time: artisan coffee, a glass of prosecco, and a spot of people-watching are all very much encouraged.
Get the Stagecoach 1 or X1 bus from Chester.

Dinner: City Dining, Styled to Perfection
Back in the city, Chester's restaurant scene offers plenty to dress up for. BarLounge is a long-standing local favourite with a lively atmosphere, creative cocktails, and a menu that balances comfort with bold flavour. The Forge brings contemporary British cooking with fire at its heart, bold flavours, and sleek surroundings. Or, for something more intimate, twentyeight is quietly exceptional: locally sourced, seasonal produce, expertly crafted dishes, and a warm, stylish setting that feels every bit the special occasion.
Day 2: City Chic, Beautiful Discoveries, and Afternoon Indulgence
Morning: The Rows and H Beauty
Wake up and wander into one of Chester's most iconic experiences. The Rows are a two-tiered shopping gallery unlike anything else in the UK, lined with independent boutiques, designer labels, galleries, and characterful finds, all framed by centuries of history. Take your time, stop for a coffee, and soak up the view from the upper walkways.
Make sure you save time for H Beauty on Eastgate Street, Harrods' first North West store and already one of Chester's most talked-about openings. Housed in the beautifully restored former Browns of Chester building, it's an immersive beauty experience on a different level, with interactive play tables, luxury brands including Dior, Charlotte Tilbury, and Creed, bespoke treatments, a Brow Spa, and the wonderfully instagrammable EL&N Café for coffee and pastries when you need to pause and take it all in.
Lunch: Chester Market or Oddfellows
Chester Market is a buzzing, convivial spot for a relaxed midday break, with street food stalls ranging from bao buns and craft beer to indulgent sweet treats. Or, if the mood calls for something a little slower, Oddfellows' sun-soaked garden and whimsical creative menu make for a perfect long lunch.

Afternoon: Afternoon Tea at The Chester Grosvenor
No style-filled weekend in Chester is complete without afternoon tea, and The Chester Grosvenor remains the gold standard. Delicate finger sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream, exquisite pastries, and silver service, all in a setting of timeless five-star elegance. Book ahead.
Dinner: End on a High
Two excellent options to close out the weekend. The Ivy Chester Brasserie on Newgate Street brings the iconic Ivy charm to the heart of Chester with modern British cuisine, beautifully crafted cocktails, and a sunlit terrace made for a long, celebratory evening. Or discover Maray on Northgate Street, the award-winning Liverpool-born restaurant that has quickly become one of Chester's most exciting openings. Inspired by the vibrant Marais district of Paris, the menu is a beautifully crafted collection of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean small plates: order the Disco Cauliflower, the famous falafel, and whatever the kitchen has on special. Thoughtful wines, great cocktails, and a warm, buzzy atmosphere make it the perfect place to linger over a last glass and toast to a very good weekend.
Where to Stay – Sleep in Style
No style journey is complete without a dreamy night’s sleep. Chester’s got you covered:
Hotel Indigo – Boutique design, bold interiors, and a great location – it's the perfect base for trendsetters.
Oddfellows – Playful, eccentric, and oh-so-Instagrammable. Expect surprises behind every door.
The Queen at Chester - A grand, gloriously individual hotel where ornate interiors, eclectic design, and a genuinely warm welcome make every stay feel like something out of the ordinary.
So if your idea of adventure includes shopping sprees, champagne teas, and dinner dates with a side of sophistication, Chester is calling your name.
