Walk in the footsteps of Chester's notorious Georgian Hangman on this exclusive Tour with the author of The Noose of Samuel Burrows.

Samuel Burrows was Chester's (and therefore Cheshire's) executioner from 1809 to 1835. During his 26-year career, he executed around 53 individuals here in Chester at the New City Gaol. On this tour, you will learn more about him, his family, and those who felt the full force of Georgian Punishment at his very hands.

Please note: This tour will include graphic descriptions of execution and will conclude on the street where Samuel Burrows died, where we will also visit what would have been his local pub during his lifetime. The tour is expected to last approximately 90 minutes.
