The Bear is an Inn with Rooms at the heart of Tattenhall, a picturesque South Cheshire village a short drive from Chester. Dating back to the 17th century, with a handsome facade added in the late 19th century, the inn has been lovingly restored to pair historic charm with a contemporary soul: a warm village local that is also a memorable destination for food, drink and a night away. Every visit is built around four pleasures: Sip, Feast, Slumber and Gather.
Sip
Our bar pours Cheshire cask ales alongside a broad draught range and a well-chosen selection of wines and spirits.
Feast
Our kitchen cooks from scratch, with great pub food at its heart: pub classics, stone-baked pizzas on our own house-made sourdough (Tuesday to Saturday) and a hearty pub roast on Sundays. Our rotating specials go further, with dishes worthy of fine dining; think scallop in the shell with guanciale and burnt lemon, or duck liver parfait with port and fig. Tuesday to Friday, our Golden Hours (4–6.30pm) offer 25% off selected dishes when you book ahead, plus special prices on selected drinks for walk-ins.
Slumber
Our eight boutique rooms each tell their own story, with design spiritually sensitive to the building's origins and locality. They make a relaxed base for exploring Chester, the Sandstone Trail, the hilltop ruins of Beeston Castle, Cheshire Ice Cream Farm and Tattenhall Marina. Enjoy a pantry breakfast weekdays and full breakfast menu at weekends, then step out into the countryside.
Gather
Our private function room hosts birthdays, family celebrations and intimate weddings. Outside, a large walled garden with its south-facing terrace and outdoor bar is a sun trap in summer.

- When are you open, and when is food served?
Open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays. Breakfast is served from 8.30am to 11.30am on Saturdays and Sundays. The main menu is served from 4pm to 8.30pm on Tuesdays, 12pm to 8.30pm Wednesday to Saturday, and 12pm to 7pm on Sundays.
