My Malpas

As a proud business owner in the beautiful village of Malpas, I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing everything this picturesque spot in Cheshire has to offer. From its historic High Street to the surrounding natural beauty, Malpas is a place where tradition meets modern life, and community spirit runs deep. The village is as rich in history as it is in heart.

Let me take you on a tour of some of my favourite places in and around Malpas, from the historic village centre to the countryside attractions just beyond.

Malpas History

As you wander along the High Street, you'll also come across Malpas Church, an iconic and historic landmark that has stood at the heart of the village for centuries. With its stunning 12th-century architecture and beautiful stained-glass windows, the church is a testament to Malpas’ rich heritage and plays an important role in the village’s community life. Malpas High Street is the perfect place to relax and take in the village’s friendly atmosphere, where local businesses and historic landmarks blend seamlessly together. The personal touch of shop owners who know their customers by name adds to the warmth of the community, making this street truly the beating heart of the village.

The Lion Pub

If you’re looking for a place to meet friends, catch up with the locals, or enjoy some hearty food and a pint, The Lion pub is a must-visit. Situated at the heart of the village, this historic pub, with 16 individually designed bedrooms, has been serving pints for generations and remains a gathering place for Malpas residents. Whether you’re here to enjoy a cosy evening by the fire or to sit outside in the beer garden during the summer, The Lion offers a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The seasonal menu, featuring locally sourced ingredients, will leave you feeling like part of the Malpas family.

Beeston & Bickerton Hills

For those who love the great outdoors, Beeston and Bickerton Hills offer some of the best views in Cheshire. These hills are perfect for walking, hiking, and taking in the stunning panoramas of the surrounding countryside. Beeston Castle, perched on top of the hill, offers a fascinating glimpse into the area’s medieval history, while the surrounding hills are perfect for a more leisurely stroll or a challenging hike for the more adventurous. It’s the perfect place to get out and enjoy the fresh air, no matter the season.

Another local treasure is Bolesworth Castle, which is not only a stunning historical site but also hosts a range of exciting events throughout the year. From the Bolesworth International Horse Show to outdoor cinema nights and festivals, this beautiful venue brings the community together for unforgettable experiences. Whether you’re a horse enthusiast, a history lover, or just someone who enjoys a fun day out, Bolesworth Castle is an essential part of Malpas' community fabric.

Just a short drive from Malpas, Cholmondeley Castle is one of Cheshire’s hidden treasures. Set within 70 acres of stunning parkland, this grand estate is home to the Cholmondeley family and offers a perfect blend of history, nature, and beauty. The castle itself, with its impressive towers and gothic architecture, provides a striking backdrop to the surrounding gardens and woodland. Cholmondeley Castle is renowned for its beautifully landscaped gardens, including the renowned “Rose Garden” and the “Italian Terrace,” both of which offer breath-taking views across the estate.
