Jody Huizar

A former Physical Education teacher of 30 years, he has taken to town crying with remarkable speed. Despite only 3 and a half years as a Town Crier, he has entered 4 competitions and made the podium twice, including 3rd place at the Loyal Company British Championships 2025.

He represents Great Dunmow, famous for the Flitch Trials, where married couples have come for over 900 years to prove before a judge and jury that they have not had an argument for a year and a day. He always fully engages with the crowd during competitions, talking about relationships and proudly promoting his town.

A children's entertainer at heart, he loves speaking to younger audiences and performs simple magic tricks to keep things fun. This natural connection with people has seen him achieve Best Ambassador in two competitions, one of which was at the British Championships. In 2025 he also undertook promotional work for international Silicon Valley company Life360.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, the Alamo City, he flies the flag of the Lone Star State at every opportunity. Bold, funny and refreshingly self-aware, he does not take himself too seriously, though he takes his role very seriously indeed, combining traditional ceremony with a strong sense of community and a dash of humour.

A Texas Town Crier residing in Essex, England, he ballroom dances twice a week and loves to tango. A former elite rugby player, he has scrummed down in the front row against the All Blacks.
