James Stewart

Since his appointment as Town Crier of New Glasgow in 1992, James has acted as a Tourism Ambassador for his community, bringing greetings across Canada, the United States, Bermuda and the United Kingdom. He has competed in Provincial, Regional, National, International and World Town Crier Competitions and in September 2025 hosted an International Championship as part of New Glasgow's 150th anniversary celebrations.

Some highlights of his 34 years include winning the Nova Scotia Championship on two occasions, winning the Atlantic Canadian Championship, First Runner Up at the 2018 Helmsley Invitational, First Runner Up at the 2015 Bermuda International Competition, Best Dressed at the 2022 AHGTC Championship in Bognor Regis, Best Dressed at the 2024 LCTC British Championship and Best Dressed at the 2019 Kingsbridge and Dartmouth legs of The Armada Cup. In addition, over the years he has received Ambassador Awards from both the Nova Scotia Guild and the town of Kingsbridge, and placed 5th in North America and 5th in Canada in recent competitions. He has had the honour of officially presenting the Nova Scotia Christmas Tree to the city of Boston, Massachusetts on six occasions and has welcomed guests to the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia's annual Garden Party since 2011.

Town Crier of New Glasgow since his appointment in 1992, James has served three mayors and nine councils over 34 years. He is the Chairman of the Nova Scotia Guild of Town Criers and has represented his community, province and country at numerous competitions and events throughout Canada, the United States, Bermuda and the United Kingdom. He was recognised by TIANS, the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia, with a Golden Pineapple Award for being an outstanding ambassador for tourism initiatives in the province of Nova Scotia.
