Churnet Valley Railway

Discover the Charm of Churnet Valley Railway

Hidden within the scenic Staffordshire Moorlands, Churnet Valley Railway offers a relaxing escape for visitors of all ages. Step aboard a restored steam or diesel train and unwind as you travel through rolling countryside, far removed from everyday life.

Departing from Froghall Station, the line winds through the picturesque Churnet Valley, with woodland, riverside views, and glimpses of the Caldon Canal—often called Staffordshire’s “Little Switzerland.” For a more adventurous ride, the Cauldon branch offers a memorable 9-mile round trip with dramatic gradients.

Family-Friendly Days Out

On selected dates from April to September, up to four children (aged 0–15) can travel free with each paying adult—perfect for great value family days out.

Onboard Dining Experiences

Enhance your visit with a dining experience, from Sunday lunches to cream teas and breakfasts, served in a First-Class carriage. Meals are freshly prepared using locally sourced ingredients, with a licensed bar available.
