Farndon lies on the River Dee south of Chester and on the border with Wales, with which it is linked by a 14th Century nine-arch stone bridge. The church has its origins in the 13th Century but was restored after the Civil War.

The Marches Way passes through Farndon on its way from Chester to Whitchurch and on to Cardiff, a distance of 320km/200miles. A guide book is available from local bookshops.

Exploring further afield:

‘River to Ridge’ is a 35km/22 mile circular bike ride from Farndon, along pleasant country lanes through Churton, Coddington and Tattenhall up to Burwardsley on the Sandstone Ridge. From here you can enjoy tremendous views over the Cheshire Plain, before a leisurely cycle back through Tilston and Stretton.

Accessibility:

The picnic site is generally level and the car park is gravelled; the area around picnic tables is grassed. A short level walk along the riverside is possible, using the recently constructed boardwalk.

Facilities: Toilets on site
