Marbury
Picturesque village in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, with mere lakes to the south and east sides of the village. A regular winner of the Best Kept Village Competition.
The village became known as Marbury in 1260 and means 'the burg by a lake', the burg being the Anglo-Saxon fortified manor.
Renowned for its lakes or meres, formed when water filled the numerous glacial depressions which were left after the last Ice Age.
The Big Mere, lies south-west of the village and to its maximum depth is 26ft and provides a wealth of habitats for waterbirds, reeds and vegetation.
On the village green, stands an oak tree, which was planted to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.
Just a short distance from the village, Marbury Country Park offers an incredible outdoor experience. Once part of a grand estate, the park is now a haven for walkers, cyclists, and wildlife enthusiasts. With its ancient woodlands, open meadows, and peaceful waterways, it’s the perfect place to explore the great outdoors. The park also connects to Northwich Woodlands, providing endless opportunities for adventure and relaxation in Cheshire’s stunning countryside.
