Bunbury

Bunbury is a delightful village steeped in history, offering a picturesque setting of quaint old cottages, narrow winding lanes, and a true taste of rural Cheshire. This charming village is home to Bunbury Watermill, a beautifully restored historical site that visitors can still explore today, providing a glimpse into Cheshire’s industrial heritage.

One of Bunbury’s standout landmarks is the impressive Church of Saint Boniface, a Grade I listed building with origins dating back to the 14th century. Inside, visitors will find the monument of Sir George Beeston, a celebrated naval commander who fought against the Spanish Armada.

Bunbury makes an ideal stopping-off point for country walks, with scenic trails leading through rolling countryside. Along the way, visitors can enjoy the warm hospitality of traditional village pubs, perfect for a relaxing meal or a refreshing drink.

Fans of British television may recognize Bunbury as the filming location for Home Fires, the ITV drama that aired for two series. Known in the show as Great Paxford, Bunbury provided the perfect setting for this inspiring tale of rural women navigating life in wartime Britain. The series was inspired by Jambusters, a non-fiction book by Julie Summers that tells the real-life stories of the Women’s Institute during World War II.
