And there’s no better area to explore this diversity than in Cheshire which boasts an array of independent brewers concentrating on producing beer for taste not volume.

The Pied Bull Hotel in Northgate Street, Chester. A micro brewery within the City Walls. A long term favourite of CAMRA whose members receive a 10% discount! Check out Brewhouse & Kitchen in Love Street, Chester (also in Wilmslow). Budding brewers can book a Brewery Experience Day with the Head Brewer.
Waverton is home to the Spitting Feathers brewery. Visit their Brewery Tap in Lower Bridge Street, Chester or The West Kirby Tap. An established independent brewery is Weetwood. They began in 1992. Now based in Kelsall look out for their much loved cask “Cheshire Cat” and their “Oregon Pale” keg.
The Tatton Brewery in Knutsford uses a heritage local yeast to preserve tradition. Try the “Blonde”. A refreshing stunner. The Cheshire Brewhouse in Congleton is an award winning Micro Brewery. Visit their Brewhouse Tap to sample a superb range of beers.
The Coach House Brewery Company is a phoenix from the ashes of the old Greenhall brewery. Based in Warrington they produce a range of excellent standards, seasonals and occasion brews. Sandiway Ales. You may have seen them on “Escape to the Country”. Stop by their shop at brewer HQ and grab a ‘growler’ (4 pints).
The 4 T’s Brewery, Warrington is full of style, humour and character with unmistakable labelling. Beartown, Congleton. A true craft brewery using traditional methods. Seek out their ‘Creme Bearlee’, a velvety stout that will satisfy a sweet tooth. The Bollington Brewing Co has pubs, brewery tours and an online shop. Try their ‘Resonance’, also available in cans.
Visit Mobberley Brewhouse. Try a ‘Guided Tasting’ or get your beer box filled fresh from the cask. The Storm Brewing Company, Macclesfield. Go for ‘UXB’ (Unique Experimental Brews) an exciting new range. Visit Dunham Massey Brewery, Bowden located on National Trust land and using a refurbished barn.
Book lovers should investigate Chapter Brewing Co., Runcorn. You might be able to sample their goods at ‘That Beer Place’ in Chester Market or ‘Beer Heroes’ in Watergate Street, Chester.
