About

The Amphitheatre Owl – A 16th century curiosity

This delightful owl cup is a unique find in Britain. It was found in a large Tudor pit dug into the backfilled arena of the Amphitheatre many years after the Romans had left. This exhibition explores the background to the owl in the 16th century world, its links to Europe, how it was used and why owls have fascinated us through time.
