About

NAGS, Nantwich and Acton Grammar School Archive

An exhibition of items from the Nantwich Museum Collection and Malbank School and Sixth Form College, ‘NAGS, Nantwich and Acton Grammar School Archive’ has opened in the Community Gallery at Nantwich museum and is due to run until Saturday 14 March. NAGS was formed in 1885 through the amalgamation of Nantwich Grammar School and Acton Grammar School. Nantwich Grammar School was founded in 1560 at the Guildhall near St Mary’s Church, and Acton Grammar School was founded in 1662. In 1860 the local Blue Cap school, a charity school, amalgamated with Nantwich Grammar School, which moved to Welsh Row.

In 1921, the united schools moved to the premises now occupied by Malbank School and Sixth Form College renamed from NAGS in 1977. The exhibition, curated by members of the museum’s Research Group, concentrates on the NAGS period which will be recalled by many local people who it is hoped may be able to contribute some of their own memories of the time. The museum in Pillory Street is open from 10.00 am - 4.00 pm Tuesday - Saturday. Entry is free to the museum and exhibition.
