Garden Open Day at Combermere Abbey

This September as autumn approaches, Combermere Abbey will open the gates to its beautiful historic gardens for a second Garden Open Day on Wednesday 23rd September. Abounding with Autumn colours and fruits, visitors will enjoy these lovely gardens as the year progresses towards winter.

Open to the public from 10am to 3pm, guests will have the opportunity to wander at their leisure around 10 acres of the C12th estate’s gardens, including the Walled Gardens and Glasshouse, the unique Fruit Tree Maze, the elegant 19th century Pleasure Garden with its rare trees and Pempe’s Pavilion, and The Garden Wood leading down to enchanting views across the mere.

At the heart of the gardens sits the magnificently restored Glasshouse, designed by Messenger in 1903, within the extraordinary fruit tree maze. Designed by the late Randoll Coate, the espaliered labyrinth is believed to be the only fruit tree maze of its kind in the world and contains over 25 varieties of apple and pear trees.

Visitors can enjoy refreshments during the day, served within the beautiful garden setting, whilst a plant stall will offer seasonal plants and garden-inspired temptations to take home. Members of the gardening team will also be on hand throughout the event to answer questions and share gardening advice and inspiration.

Light refreshments and free parking are available on site, including an EV charger. Please note: Dogs and picnics are not permitted.

Tickets are priced at £8.50 and pre-booking is preferred.
