Basic Bloke 2 - There’s No Bloke Without Fire
Basic Bloke 2 – There’s No Bloke Without Fire is the latest tour from comedian, author, podcaster and radio host Geoff Norcott.
Unlike most sequels, Basic Bloke 2 will move beyond some themes of the original (while fully aware that a comedian doing a ‘sequel’ at all is a bit ridiculous). Geoff’s been moving in male mental health circles for a while now, but while they’re all saying blokes should ‘check in’ on each other, he’s wondering what happens if you do ‘check in’ all the time but they mainly want to send you politically incorrect memes. How about a system like the start of Netflix shows, where each bloke offers a ‘previously on’? It saves time.
He’ll also reflect on how much he loves being a Dad but wonders if dads will ever get the same cultural credit mums do (not likely judging by mother’s day cards). Geoff’s also taking advantage of the rediscovered tolerance towards jokes being jokes to tell you what he really thinks. Above all, how much he judges people. Bad parents, fussy eaters, over eaters and anyone who wears a dressing gown beyond 9AM…it’s fair to say this time the gloves are off.
This is also Geoff’s first under a Labour government, so he’s got plenty to get off his chest! Not least because there’s nothing quite so British as being promised a brave new dawn then realising it’s as crap as the last one.
Geoff’s also reflecting on what it was like working during the high watermark of ‘woke’ – and a live TV appearance which could’ve easily ended his career.
