Bank Holiday Weekend
1940s Weekend
1940s Weekend
Step back in time with vintage dress-up, family crafts and wartime history from 24–26 August. Crewe Heritage Centre invites visitors of all ages to travel back to the 1940s this August Bank Holiday weekend, with three days of wartime activity themed around life in Crewe to complement the Centre’s Crewe at War exhibition, offering a powerful look at how Crewe’s people and industry were shaped by the conflict.
Saturday 24th August – 1940s Dress-Up Day
On Saturday, the Centre is encouraging visitors to embrace the 1940s and come dressed in clothing from the era to enjoy a full day of themed entertainment. Live music will be performed throughout the day by The Lady Sings Vintage, bringing the sounds of the era to life with four uplifting sets of wartime classics. Visitors can complete their vintage look with professional 1940s hairstyling, provided on-site by hair artist Bethany Jane Davis. Dressing up is optional but strongly encouraged to help bring the spirit of the decade to life for all visitors.
Visitors can also take part in a creative craft workshop, where families can get involved making wartime-inspired crafts in a relaxed, hands-on environment.
Sunday 25th & Monday 26th August – Dig for Victory Days
The wartime theme continues across Sunday and Monday with a focus on life on the Home Front. From 10:30am to 3:00pm on both days, artist Francesca Chinnery will host drop-in Victory Gardens workshop, inspired by the 'Dig for Victory' campaign. Visitors will learn how families in wartime Crewe grew their own food to support the war effort. Participants can decorate a plant pot and plant herbs such as thyme, mint, sage, or chives to take home. The workshop also includes the chance to explore original ‘Dig for Victory’ posters and authentic wartime recipes. Take your herbs home, grow them and create a wartime recipe!
Additional Attractions
Alongside the special weekend programme, Crewe Heritage Centre’s permanent attractions will be open as usual.
