Spooktacular Saturday to bring Halloween thrills to Crewe town centre
Crewe is getting ready for a frightfully fun weekend as the finishing touches are made for this Saturday’s Crewe Spooktacular, when Lyceum Square, Victoria Centre and Market Square will be filled with free Halloween activities from 11am to 3.30pm.
Delivered by Discover Crewe, the public-facing brand of Crewe BID, the event will bring live entertainment, creative workshops and family fun to the heart of the town, with local businesses across Crewe also getting into the Halloween spirit.
Families are encouraged to head to Crewe Town Centre from 11am to make the most of the free activities throughout the day, including face painting, mosaic pumpkin crafting, spooky sand art, willow weaving and crazy golf. Walkabout performances from the Stray Horns roaming brass band, comedy dance duo Turbo and Dai, and a team of stilt walkers will add to the atmosphere.
The main stage will host a fancy dress competition at 2pm, giving families the chance to win tickets to Lyceum Theatre's pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, before a final live performance rounds off the day at around 3pm.
Over at Grand Junction Retail Park, shoppers can take part in a free Spin to Win between 11am and 1pm, with small prizes and sweet treats up for grabs. Many of the park’s stores will also be joining in with Halloween-themed giveaways.
Crewe Market Hall will also be joining in with the Halloween fun, hosting a Geeky Gala from 10am to 4pm. Organised by Gumshoe Comics, the event will feature cosplayers, competitions and themed stalls.
Graham Saunders, Chair of Crewe BID and General Manager of South Cheshire Glass, said: "The Crewe Spooktacular is all about giving families a free reason to spend time in the town and enjoy it together, with something different to discover wherever you go."
The celebrations also include the Spooktacular Character Trail, which runs along Nantwich Road and continues until Saturday, November 1st. Families can follow it to find life-sized statues of Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Thor, Slimer and Kung Fu Panda hidden inside local businesses including United Carpets, Domino’s, Stephenson Browne, Butters John Bee, Repair World Direct and Apparel.
Those who take a photo with all six characters will be entered into a prize draw to win £100 to spend in any Crewe business. Trail maps are available on the Discover Crewe website, and families are encouraged to share their photos by tagging @DiscoverCrewe on social media.
Graham added: "We want this to become an annual tradition that families look forward to year after year. It’s the perfect excuse to come together and celebrate, and we’re proud to be putting Crewe firmly on the map with this."
The Crewe Spooktacular is part of Discover Crewe’s ongoing work to support local businesses and create more reasons for people to visit the town, funded by local businesses through Crewe BID.
