The Lunar New Year Market
The Lunar New Year Market
Warrington will celebrate the Lunar New Year next month with a market set to bring the community together.
The Lunar New Year Market will take place on Sunday, February 15, at Warrington Time Square, organised by Warrington Hongkongers CIC (WHKERS CIC).
The annual celebration is marked by billions of people around the world, with each year being assigned an animal.
This year is the year of the horse, and it will be celebrated in style in the town centre, with a market organised by the Hong Kong community in Warrington.
Centred around the theme ‘cultural fusion’ the event aims to bring the community together through a shared appreciation of traditions, food and entertainment.
The bustling market will feature a spectacular wishing tree, which will stand at nearly two and a half meters tall.
Classic Hong Kong carnival games will be available to try, as well as a variety of authentic street food.
Stalls will offer immersive experience such as Fain Chun, Chinese calligraphy writing, and fortune telling.
The celebration will start with a traditional Lion Dance performance at 11am, performed by Liverpool Hung Gar Kung Foo team.
“This event is more than a market,” a spokesperson for WHKERS CIC.
“It is a symbol of integration and friendship. By bringing the authentic atmosphere of a Hong Kong flower market to Warrington, we hope to create a space for cultural exchange, where our local neighbours can experience our traditions, and we can celebrate our new home together.”
Applications are currently open for traders and stall holders, with more information available via https://warringtonhongkongers.com/, with the deadline to apply on January 16.
The Lunar New Year celebration will take places between 10am and 4pm on February 15.
