The Bear & Billet is a friendly traditional pub dating back to 1664. Serving delicious home cooked food and a wide selection of drinks it’s the perfect place to begin your sightseeing tour around the historic town of Chester.
Built in 1664 to replace a building destroyed in the Civil War, the Bear & Billet is one of Chester’s finest examples of a black and white half-timbered building. Located just within the City’s Walls, the pub has seen many a visitor as it’s loved by both the locals and tourists.
The Bear & Billet has subtle hints to its’ varied past (including the resident ghosts). Originally the town house of the Earls of Shrewsbury, the pub is also the birthplace of Beatles’ legend John Lennon’s grandmother! Be sure to ask the friendly team members about the pubs history and any tips on how best to enjoy your time in Chester.
