About

Soup and Sunset Guided Walk at Burton Mere Wetlands

Enjoy a sunset walk as our wildlife begins to settle in for the night. Burton Mere Wetlands is a magical place to be as the sun goes down and wintering pink-footed geese flock back after a day feeding on the fields and Herons and Egrets head to their roost.

The stage is set for a spectacular evening. Keep your eyes peeled for Peregrine and Marsh Harrier, that often make an appearance in search of an evening meal energising murmuration over the reeds and if we are lucky a barn owl might ghost over the fields.

The walk will start from the Visitor Centre at 2pm. Tickets include a warming cup of soup and bread roll which we will pick up from the Café about 3pm in take away cups. Please let us know of any dietary requirements when booking. The event will conclude after the sun sets and we loose the light around 4pm.

This two- and half-hour walk is aimed at all levels of knowledge, for those that wish to improve their wildlife watching skills and would like to learn more about the fabulous species we have here. Our experienced guide, Tom, will explain why and when these fabulous creatures decide to visit our unique reserve, the wider work we do to make this reserve so brilliant, and the journey we’ve been on to make the reserve what it is today.

Your guide Tom will also incorporate poetry and mindful moments as part of this experience and share more about the history of Burton Point, Wirral's only ancient hillfort.

It will be dark towards the end of the event, please bring a torch. Please dress appropriately for the weather on the day (it will be cold) and have sturdy footwear. This event involves walking around 2 to 3 miles with some steps and gradients and prolonged standing however there are benches and opportunities to take a seat. Paths around the reserve are accessible for wheelchairs and small mobility scooters. We also have a mobility scooter you can hire from the Visitor Centre. If you require any adjustments for this event please let us know beforehand. Please note we will be onsite after the reserve has closed to the public and you will need to follow instructions from the staff as we leave the carpark at the end of the event.

Bring your own binoculars, or hire some from us on the day from the Visitor Centre from £5.00. These need to be handed back to the guide or staff at the end of the event.

Ticket price includes your reserve entry fee for non-members, you're welcome to enjoy the reserve before the event starts.

You're welcome to purchase tickets for your enthusiastic teenage children, however our guided walk events are not suited to small children.

We look forward to welcoming you to our very special reserve.
