Free Preview Screening of BBC's Civilisations: Rise and Fall
To coincide with the Gladiators of Britain exhibition at the Grosvenor Museum, ahead of it being broadcast, the museum will be exclusively screening an episode of the BBC’s new series Civilisations: Rise and Fall.
Produced by BBC Studios in association with the British Museum, the series looks at four mighty civilisations, and how the art and artefacts they left behind hold clues to explaining their fate.
Contributors include Dominic Sandbrook from The Rest is History podcast, co-host of The Rest is Politics podcast Alistair Campbell, Radio 4’s Making History presenter Iszi Lawrence and academics and authors including Camilla Townsend and Salima Ikram.
The event will take place in the Grosvenor’ lecture theatre on Saturday 22 November at 11am. The episode shown will be Civilisations :The Fall of Rome. This begins with the Roman emperor Honorius ascending the throne in 395 AD and ends with Rome falling to foreign invaders for the first time in 800 years.
This is a drop-in event, no booking required.
Please arrive for a prompt start at 11am. The screening will last approximately 1 hour.
Before or after the screening come and learn from a Roman Medicus about what sort of injuries a gladiator might receive, and how to treat them as part of our Roman Medicine Roadshow.
