VE Day 80 Anniversary Celebration

VE Day on May 8, 1945, marked the official end of fighting in the European theatre following the surrender of Nazi Germany the day prior.

This year, Middlewich Town Council has organised a special event to commemorate 80 years since that historic day.

Thursday, May 8, this year will begin with the mayor reading the Proclamation on the steps of the town hall at 9am.

This will be followed by a morning service at St Michael and All Angels Church at 9.30am.

At 6.30pm, the church's bells will ring out in unison with other towns and parishes across the country in a celebration of peace.

The celebrations continue into the evening with a special 1940s-style live music and dance event at the Victoria Hall in Civic Way.

This is a ticketed event, with the £8 'special souvenir' tickets including a free buffet. A licensed bar will also be open during the evening.

The celebration day will conclude with a VE Day tribute to all those who gave so much to the war effort being read out at the Victoria Hall, followed by a rendition of I Vow To Thee My Country.

Tickets for the music and dance event can be bought by calling Nikki Kettle on 07955 270587 (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 10am to 1pm) or the Middlewich Royal British Legion.
