As we come to the end of January, we’ve put together a list of our top things to see and do across the county this week.
1) Queer at Storyhouse
This week Storyhouse is celebrating Chester's LGBTQIA+ community with their Storyhouse Queer event with film, performances, workshops and more! It's a community festival held in partnership with Chester Pride and co-created with people from local LGBTQIA+ communities of all ages.
2) Mars at the Museum
This week and until March 9th, see Mars, Luke Jerram’s mesmerising planetary art installation, as it moves into a new orbit at Norton Priory Museum and Gardens.
Following the incredible success of Museum of the Moon in October 2021 and Gaia in January 2024, Mars will complete the trilogy of the UK artist’s out-of-this world installations in Norton Priory’s impressive visitor centre atrium.
Measuring six metres in diameter, Mars is a touring artwork featuring detailed NASA imagery of the Martian surface. Visitors will be able to view the installation from a variety of different angles, including an intimate viewing experience looking down on the Red Planet from the centre’s mezzanine balcony.
A carefully curated events programme will accompany Mars, including concerts, readings, storytelling, talks, meditation and mindful sessions, and a special Martian theme for February half-term activities.
3) Murder Mystery Evening
This Friday, head to the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa to play detective for the night. Figure out "Whodunnit?" during an evening of intrigue at their ever-popular Murder Mystery event! Arrive from 7pm to begin an evening of mystery and enigma. A crime is about to unfold, so pay close attention those around you and follow the clues to solve the murder mystery whilst enjoying twists, turns and laughs along the way. The evening also includes a delicious three-course meal.

This Saturday Chester will be celebrating the Lunar New Year of the Snake with performances of traditional music, lions and dragon dancing, non-combustible firecrackers and cultural characters.
The God of Prosperity, The Emperor of Heaven and The Happy Buddha will be in Chester city centre on Saturday morning in an event delivered by the Wah Lei Chinese Association and supported by Bank of America, Cheshire West and Chester Council, along with other local businesses.
5) Warrington Music Fest Showcase
Warrington Music Festival’s popular ‘Winter Showcase’ will return to Parr Hall this weekend for an all-day celebration of some of the town’s best homegrown talent.
Bigger and better for 2025, the concert will offer both a platform for grassroots artists and an exciting taste of what’s to come next summer at the full festival.
This year there will be a packed line-up of 14 bands and performers taking to Warrington’s historic stage for an incredible seven hours of live music. Parlours, Belmont and the Stocks and Ritch are among the rising Warrington acts returning to the line-up after seizing the opportunity at the first Winter Showcase in early 2024.
