Over the weekend, the Farm team at Tatton Park had the pleasure of welcoming two wonderful new arrivals! Emily, a charming Rare Breed Golden Guernsey goat, has given birth to two adorable little girls, to the delight of staff and visitors. The arrival of these fun-loving and vibrant kids will no doubt capture the hearts of everyone but more importantly, help to protect an endangered breed that was nearly wiped out in the Second World War.

Tatton Park welcomes the arrival of two rare breeds at the Farm

Championing rare breeds

The farm at Tatton Park has Approved Conservation Centre status from the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST), since 2007. The team are extremely dedicated in protecting the rare breed animals living on the Farm whilst supporting the important work of the RBST who monitor, save, and promote UK native livestock.

The arrival of two new goat kids at the farm is a significant boost for the conservation of the Golden Guernsey breed, listed as a "minority" on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust's watchlist. These new additions not only increase the population but also enhance genetic diversity, crucial for the breed's long-term viability.

“We are delighted to welcome Emily’s two new Golden Guernsey goat kids; they are an exceedingly rare breed so it’s great to be adding to their numbers. Emily is a Farm favourite who takes part in Knutsford May Day every year, we are sure her two new little girls are going to have her friendly and outgoing personality and will be skipping around the pen and meeting the visitors every day.” - Jayne Chapman, Farm Manager

To mark this special occasion, the farm is inviting the community to help choose the perfect names for these precious new additions., encouraging visitors to share their name suggestions in the comments on Tatton Park’s social media platforms. Instagram: @tattonpark Facebook: Tatton Park

Tatton Park's Farm is an authentic, 40's working farm where you can meet rare breed animals and new arrivals throughout the year. In its hayday the Farm helped feed the whole of the Tatton Estate and we've brought this to life through the 'Field to Fork' story.
