Running from 17 to 25 February, Chester Zoo is inviting visitors to uncover the wonders of UK wildlife.
Joining the celebrations will be wildlife cameraman and Strictly Come Dancing winner, Hamza Yassin, who will be hosting two exciting talks on Tuesday 20 February about his new book ‘Be a Birder’ where he will share his own birdwatching adventures.
The special event will take place at the charity zoo’s new events space, The Square, where nature enthusiasts will have the chance to meet him at an exclusive book signing.
Conservationists are also inviting zoo visitors on a journey across the British Isles in its huge new 360 immersive exhibition, Native: The Incredible World of British Wildlife.
Nicola Buckley, Conservation Education & Engagement Manager at the zoo, said: “This February half term we’ll be taking visitors on a wild adventure and shining a spotlight on the very best of British wildlife inside our huge new 360° exhibition, Native: The Incredible World of British Wildlife. Zoo visitors will be transported to our country’s most dramatic coastlines and through its beautiful woodlands to discover colourful puffins, bottlenose dolphins, dam-building beavers and even the elusive Scottish wildcat.
“As part of these celebrations, we’re really excited to be welcoming Hamza Yassin to Chester Zoo for a series of special events. He will be sharing stories of his own birding adventures, while also providing top tips and tricks that help guests identify bird species, understand their behaviour and get started in their own birdwatching journey – it’s not to be missed!
“We’ve also planned a whole calendar of family fun activities which will be taking place throughout the week including animal treasure hunts, building bug hotels, interactive matchmaking games and much, much more.
“We want families to feel inspired about the wonders of UK wildlife and the role they can play in protecting the incredible nature all around us.”
Entry is free with zoo admission and each session is limited to 250 people and is on a first come, first served basis. Hamza’s talks will take place at 11am and 2pm with guests offered the opportunity to meet him at 11:45am for a book signing.
Admission to this event is free when buying a zoo ticket and visitors do not need to pre-book this event. More information can be found at www.chesterzoo.org
