“The Anderton Boat Lift is currently under-going some much needed works this winter and will be back in action Easter 2023. Our visitor centre, coffee shop and grounds is currently open Saturdays and Sundays 10am-4pm.
Although you currently can’t enjoy a boat trip through the lift, here’s 5 wonderful things you can do with us:

Start your day right with a ‘full boaters’ breakfast and coffee in our coffee shop (there’s also an ‘Early lift’ option for smaller appetites) We also have a range of Bacon and Sausage rustic rolls. Off for a walk? Grab it to take out!
2. Explore the FREE exhibition
Read the special heritage story behind the mighty Boat Lift in the child-friendly, informative exhibition. Play dress up, focusing on the lives of those who designed, built, and worked with the Victorian masterpiece of engineering.
3. Head to the heights
On special dates you can take a guided tour to the very top of the Lift! Let our knowledgeable guide take you through the history and engineering of this 148-year boat lift. Our unique behind the scenes tour is not for the faint hearted, the tour starts in our visitor centre before you’re guided out along the aqueduct, taken into previously unseen control room and machine deck and finally out up on top of the lift! Special dates only- Contact us for details.
4. Try your luck
Play on our selection of authentic vintage arcade machines, laugh with Jolly Jack, let our mystic tell you your fortune or dance with our Pelham puppets! Tokens available at our welcome desk- There’s something for all ages.
5. Buy a souvenir in the Gift Shop.
Why not take something to remember your day with us by selecting a souvenir from the gift shop. With a lovely range of books, keepsakes and toys you will find something to suit all budgets. Want to know more- pick up our Anderton guidebook for only £5.”
