A new tour celebrating extraordinary women who have made an impact on Chester is putting on extra times to celebrate International Women's Day, 8 March.
Aethelflaed, Lady of the Mercians, who refortified Chester, and the French fashion designer Coco Chanel, a frequent visitor during her affair with the 2nd Duke of Westminster, are just two of the exceptional women who feature in the tour, Women Of Chester.
The 90-minute walk travels through 2,000 years of history, highlighting the important role played by women in the city down the centuries.
Created by local Green Badge guides Gail Shearer, Isabel Robertson, and Katie Crowther (pictured, left to right), the tour usually takes place at 11.30am on Sundays but will also depart at 11.30am, 2pm and 5.30pm on International Women's Day, Wednesday 8 March.
“We met when training in Chester for the Green Badge Guide qualification and became aware of amazing women whose voices and stories are no longer heard yet they contributed to the rich culture of the city," said Isabel. "We wanted our tour to entertain and inform whilst bringing these wonderful women 'back to life’.”
Tickets £10, available to book or on the day at the Visitor Information Centre on Northgate Street, from where the tour departs. For more details go to www.facebook.com/WomenofChester
