The end of lockdown is just around the corner. Here are some of our favourite scenic places in Cheshire, perfect to visit with your mum when we are free to enjoy the simple pleasures of beautiful gardens and outdoor attractions again.
Tatton Park
Tatton Park was recognised as #1 National Trust Garden in the UK for 2020. Enjoy 1,000 acres of breath-taking parkland waiting to be explored. Make sure to book your tickets to visit the 50 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. During your visit stop by the Housekeeper’s Store and grab a take-away from Stables.
Arley Hall and Gardens
Vist Arley’s Gardens which are considered some of the finest in Europe and have been created over the last 250 years by successive generations of the same family. A unique blend of history and traditional design mixed with modern ideas and additions offering a rich atmosphere. Enjoy a stroll through the Woodland Walk and treat yourself to a take away from The Gardener's Kitchen Café which you can enjoy in the picnic area.
Beeston Castle and Woodland Park
Enjoy long walks through the woodlands and stunning views from the top where visitors can see across 8 counties on a clear day. Bring your binoculars as you might spot birds and small mammals while exploring. Beeston origins stretch over 4,000 years and is full of history. All visitors must book their tickets in advance.
Teggs Nose country Park
Tegg’s Nose Country Park has a landscape that is dominated by rock. Dry stone walls and sturdy barns add to the dramatic character of the steeply sided valleys while many of the hill tops are pitted with old quarries. Today, nature has softened the scars of industry and there is plenty to see at Tegg’s whatever time of year. You don’t have to go far to enjoy exhilarating views over the Cheshire Plain and on a clear day you can see Liverpool’s cathedrals and the Welsh hills.
Lyme
The 1,400 acre estate at Lyme is perfect for bird-watching and spotting wildlife (including its medieval herd of red deer). Enjoy a tranquil stroll through the Edwardian rose garden, ravine garden or orangery located next to the reflecting lake best know for being featured in the BBC production of ‘Pride and Predjudice’ where Mr. Darcy met Miss Bennett. Wandering the gardens you can enjoy the contrast between cascading water and still reflections as you explore the different landscapes.
Delamere Forest
Delamere Forest is Cheshire’s biggest woodland with a bit of something for everyone. Spend your day enjoying a leisurely walk through the trees or riding bikes or even scaling new heights at Go Ape. The stunning landscape has a choice of three walking trails and two cycling trails to choose from, offering something for every type of adventurer.
Capesthorne Hall and Gardens
Enjoy Capesthorne Hall’s majestic Jacobean style architecture, which dates back from 1719, is set in 100 acres of stunning parkland which has exquisite gardens and a chain of three lakes. Stroll through the rhododendron woods and walks leading to an arboretum.
Anderton Boat Lift
Anderton Boat lift was voted the best experience of the year in 2019! This feat of Victorian engineering is often referred to as the ‘Cathedral of the Canals’ with incredible panoramic views from the top of the impressive structure. During your visit, go for a stroll along the canal or enjoy the Let’s Play outdoor area.
Little Moreton Hall
Tucked away at the back on Little Moreton Hall is a beautifully manicured knot garden. Within the garden you’ll find herbs and vegetables that would have been used by the Tudors for cooking and medicine.
