The Mayor of Ellesmere Port Councillor Paul Donovan will be switching on the Christmas lights in Ellesmere Port on Friday 29 November from the Civic Square.

A traditional lantern parade around the town centre will be led by Chester’s Karamba Samba band. Over 100 local school children will join the parade with their hand made lanterns before the light switch on countdown. Artist Russell Kirk will be bringing the giant Queen of Light puppet, the Stag, Unicorn, Jack Frost and Angel.

Activities are from 4pm until 6.15pm with free children's rides, live entertainment from local schools and singers, food and drink plus of course Father Christmas supported by Ellesmere Port Round Table. Following the switch on Santa will be starting his streets visits.

The local schools taking part in the Lantern parade are Brookside Primary, Cambridge road, Wolverham primary and Whitby Heath.

Children from Brookside Primary have made the star on top of the Ellesmere Port Christmas Tree this year. Every child and staff member added a thumb print to Christmas baubles attached to the star.

“Most of this event is free, I’m looking forward to sharing our lights switch on with Ellesmere Port residents. Happy Christmas Ellesmere Port.”
