Turtle Bay pledge to join Chester Zoo Palm Oil Champions Scheme 

Caribbean-inspired restaurant and bar, Turtle Bay, have teamed up with local visitor destination and conservation charity, Chester Zoo to create a special new cocktail inspired by some of the zoo’s most beautiful birds. Get ready Chester - the Caribbean Flamingo Cocktail is on its way.  The collaboration will raise funds for Chester Zoo as a £1 donation from every Caribbean Flamingo sold will go straight to the Zoo’s charitable efforts to help wildlife to survive and thrive.

As Turtle Bay gears up to open the doors to its Chester restaurant this October, the team wanted to create a special cocktail to celebrate its arrival in the city and could think of no better place for inspiration than Chester's iconic zoo.
Paying tribute to what is surely one of the zoo’s most colourful residents, the Caribbean Flamingo cocktail is set to be a tropical, Insta-worthy vision in pink and will only be available at Turtle Bay Chester. The cocktail celebrates the vibrancy and magnificence of these beautiful birds as well as the spirit of the Caribbean.

True to Turtle Bay’s passion for rum, The Caribbean Flamingo will be a blend of one of Jamaica’s most legendary rum exports, Wray and Nephew, as well as the coconut infused variety Koko Kanu. Shaken with Frangelico (hazelnut flavoured liqueur), strawberry puree and coconut milk, the result is a bright pink, fruity but fierce tribute to the fabulous flamingo.

The collaboration is part of a wider partnership between Turtle Bay and Chester Zoo as they team up to develop their shared values around sustainability and conservation. Turtle Bay has pledged to join Chester Zoo’s community of sustainable palm oil champions as part of Chester’s Sustainable Palm Oil City status campaign.

Turtle Bay, are set to open their Chester restaurant in October in Northgate, the city’s new market and leisure destination. The brand new 3,000 sq ft restaurant will have a total of 182 covers (158 inside and 24 outside).  It will be the first Turtle Bay in Cheshire. 

Bringing the magic of the Caribbean to Chester, guests can expect Turtle Bay’s signature beach shack-style decor, a trademark Caribbean-inspired menu, as well as a tried-and-triumphed selection of stunning rum-based cocktails.

“We are over the moon to be teaming up with a destination as iconic as Chester Zoo. Not only are we creating a very special new cocktail for Chester but we’re also raising valuable funds to help support conservation, something that’s very important to us. We’re also delighted to have been able to join the Sustainable Palm Oil City campaign as we pledge to reduce unsustainable palm oil across our portfolio to zero over the next 12 months.”

Mark Vercoe, Birds General Manager at Chester Zoo, said:
“There are six flamingo species and the Caribbean flamingo is the most colourful of them all, with their iconic colouration coming from the tiny plants and invertebrates they eat. They’re a wonderful species and we’re sure people will be equally tickled pink by Turtle Bay’s new Caribbean Flamingo cocktail which, while being a lot of fun, will contribute to the serious and vitally important job we’re doing here at the zoo to prevent wildlife extinction. Initiatives like this highlight the power of community and partnerships in conservation - with every cocktail contributing to ensuring that Caribbean flamingos can thrive both here at the zoo and in the wild.”
