One of Tatton Park’s oldest, listed surviving buildings will be welcoming visitors for a series of open days, making it the first time in over ten years, that the historic Old Hall has had its doors open for everyone. It’s a new opportunity to experience the atmosphere and rich history of Tatton Park’s ‘hidden gem’ which is reputedly one of the UK’s most haunted houses.
A Tudor survivor
Standing within its own grounds in a secluded area of the parkland, the red brick manor house usually hosts educational groups and private tours throughout the year. Conservation teams at Tatton Park have been working hard over the winter to prepare the Old Hall ready for the first public opening in over 10 years. Visitors can take a peep into the past and experience the atmosphere of an early Tudor Great Hall, once at the heart of Tatton’s lost village, with bedrooms from the Stuart period and spaces that were once home to the Victorian Gamekeeper in the 1900s. Carolyn Latham, Tatton Park’s Mansion and Collection’s manager said:
“We’re thrilled to have the Old Hall open to the public again. There is a beautiful ambiance to the site, so hidden away in the middle of the parkland. It has a special place in the history of the estate, and we hope visitors will enjoy exploring the buildings and discovering its unique character.”
A summer of play for families
Families are invited to spend time exploring the site, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, during a series of special summer holiday opening days and encouraged to stay a while, enjoy summer picnics in the grounds, and play lawn games that will be provided for families to use. Find more details of family summer opening times and dates here.
