2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Judith Kerr, bestselling author, and illustrator. She has captured the imaginations of generations of little and not so little readers, with her endearing stories about “a big furry, stripy tiger” and a very forgetful cat called Mog!
To kick off the summer celebrations, in partnership with Judith’s publisher, HarperCollins Children’s Books, Tatton Park will be giving away free Tiger chocolate treats, in the gardens on 14 June, the date that would have been Judith’s 100th birthday.
There’s plenty of ways for everyone to join in the celebrations and roarsome summer adventures:
- The Conservatory and gardens host a small exhibition where grown-ups can learn more about Judith, whilst little ones can discover The Tiger Who Came to Tea, tea-party trail which has been a big hit with families this spring.
- Mog the Forgetful Cat will start the Farm’s summer activities. A fun farmyard trail will include Mog in the Maize Maze and a giant cat flap to crawl into.
- The Mansion’s state rooms, and servants’ quarters allow little ones to enter Mog’s world this summer also. Below stairs in the cellars, family activity rooms allow children to stay and play a while and pose for a picture with Mog.
The fun doesn’t stop there – during the school summer holidays there’s Mog storytelling and craft activities at the Farm, special workshops for children with Create and Bake sessions in the Mansion’s historic kitchens and the chance to meet Mog - who will be calling in for some special visits!
