Illuminated: Trena Cox in Chester, exhibition, guided walk

Please note that this event starts from Chester Cathedral. Tickets £10 per person, book via Grosvenor Museum website.
he "Illuminated: Trena Cox in Chester" exhibition is running at The Grosvenor Museum from 15th February to 18th May 2025. It explores recurring themes in the artist's vibrant stained glass work, which include pilgrimage and heraldry, as well as stories of the people and places of her adopted home city of Chester.

This walk will be a chance to get out onto the streets of the city where Trena lived and worked from 1924 until her death in 1980. We'll take a look at some of the buildings where her distinctive work can be seen today and learn more of their history.

Trena was often a passionate advocate for Chester's rich heritage and along the walk, we'll consider how the city was changing during her time and her reactions to this.

There'll also be plenty of chance to chat with fellow walkers along the way and share your thoughts on Trena's art and legacy.

The practical stuff:

The walk will begin outside Chester Cathedral, home to some of Trena's earliest works in the city. Please meet outside the main public entrance of Chester Cathedral for a prompt start at 11 am. We won't be visiting the cathedral on this walk.

The walk will last approximately 90 minutes and will end near The Grosvenor Museum, 27 Grosvenor Street, CH1 2DD. You'll then have a chance to view the exhibition if you wish.

For further information about the exhibition and associated events and activities, including accessibility information, please see the West Chesire Museums website.

I'll be at the meeting point from around 10.45 am so please come along and introduce yourself.

The walk will go ahead whatever the weather so please dress appropriately.

Chester is a historic city, and the route may cover uneven surfaces and include steps so please wear suitable footwear. If you have any mobility issues or other accessibility concerns, please contact the organiser before booking to ensure the route can be adjusted accordingly.

The event does not include refreshments, but there are many options for eat-in or take-away food and drink in the local area both before and after the walk.

If the event has to be cancelled at short notice for any reason, the organisers will make every effort to contact you using details provided at the time of booking.
