Our research is beating cancer.
Thanks to supporters like you, our pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives. Over the past 40 years survival has doubled, thanks to the great progress research has made. Find out more about how our research has already made a difference to patients and what we are funding right now.
When you give money:
You help our scientists get closer to finding a cure.
Giving as little as £2 a month could fund something as big as a new research centre or as small as glass slides to analyse cancer cells.
When you donate goods:
You could help us fund more clinical trials.
We fund clinical trials to bring new cancer treatments to patients as quickly and safely as possible.
Dropping off your unwanted goods to one of Chester charity shops, could help more people get the treatment they need.
When you give time:
You make the Government listen.
Our amazing campaigns ambassadors helped us secure a £23 million Government investment into radiotherapy on the NHS in England.
This means more patients will get access to more advanced and targeted radiotherapy treatments.

Our vision is to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
In the 1970s, less than a quarter of people with cancer survived. But over the last 40 years, survival has doubled – today half will survive.
Our ambition is to accelerate progress and see three-quarters of people surviving the disease within the next 20 years.
Our strategy will give us the foundations we need to tackle the challenges ahead.
In 2017/18 we spent a total of £652 million using money raised during this financial year plus extra money gained, for example through investments.
We spent £473 million on all of our work to help beat cancer.
This includes:
- £423 million towards research. This includes research into specific types of cancer as well as research into cancer biology, which underpins all types of cancer.
- £43 million spent on our policy and information activities. This includes prevention and early diagnosis work; campaigning; communicating health messages; and engaging patients, the public and health professionals.
We spent £97 million on fundraising.
This includes:
- Marketing to engage new supporters and innovation to develop new ways to raise money, to make sure we can continue our research in the future.
We spent £89 million running our shop network and events.
This includes:
- £78 million on running our shop network. While the cost of running our shops is significant, they are part of a network for supporters. It not only raises vital funds, but also delivers health messages and increases awareness of our research. As well as the cost of our shops, this expenditure includes support for our shop network, such as IT support, corporate resources and human resources.
- £11 million to deliver events which have a registration fee, like Race for Life.
