Day 1
Arrive in Chester by train.
At 11am take a trip to the top of the tower at Chester Cathedral. On this hour long tour, you’ll climb the Cathedral’s 216 steps to the top of the Tower, via various viewing galleries to admire breath-taking views of the Cathedral’s interior.
Along the way, you will catch inspiring views of the Cathedral from an elevated position (perfect photo opportunities!), discover lots about the history of the building and see a view of almost the full length of the Cathedral. Once at the top (125 feet high), take in the view encompassing of one city, two countries and five counties! You will also visit the former Bell Ringing Chamber, several other secret behind-the-scenes areas, and learn fascinating facts along the way.
Then explore the rest of the cathedral not forgetting a visit to the gift shop, with a wonderful range of music, jewellery, books, cards, toys, confectionery, gifts and more, before you leave.
After all that fresh air, treat yourselves to lunch at Chester Market Hall, where even the fussiest of eaters will find something they love to eat. Choose from Mexican street food, authentic Bangladeshi fayre, pizza, Thai, delicious burgers, seafood, pasta not forgetting a range of cakes, ice cream and pasties, vegan cuisine and if you love cheese, Cheesy Bandits is a must!
With a full tum, it's time to get on the bus (1 or X1) to Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet for the afternoon for some serious retail therapy. This open air shopping centre is home to over 140 designer and premium brands, offering up to 60% off RRP. Not to mention, they’ve made your day out even easier with free parking, handsfree shopping and extended opening hours.
When you are all spent up it's time to head back to Chester for dinner at Twenty Eight, a growing-led British tapas restaurant brought to you by the team behind the Chef's Table. Bringing seed to plate, market garden produce to the heart of Chester.

If you don't have to rush home just yet, a boat trip along the river is always a must! These half-hour ChesterBoat trips cruise along the River Dee, under the suspension bridge, past Grosvenor Park and the Earl’s Eye, following the long sweep of the Meadows to the city limits before returning to The Groves. Offering a new view of the city and taking in some beautiful and interesting riverside properties. Look out for the local wildlife too, including swans, cormorants and kingfishers.
Or, a short train journey and quick walk takes you to Hawarden Estate, located in North Wales just over the border.
