Prestbury Choral Society is starting its Christmas celebration a little early this year, before the rush of activities in December. Rehearsing for this concert is a pleasure as it's such stunning music.
The Magnificat by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi is a celebrated choral work composed in 1739. It features a variety of musical styles, from exuberant jubilations to reflective, intimate passages, and really showcases his mastery of melody and harmony. Its enduring popularity has made it a staple in choral repertoire, celebrated for its artistic beauty and its profound spiritual message. Combined with selections from Handel's Messiah and other seasonal music, with carols for audience and choir, this promises to be a really enjoyable evening.
